Dimensional Control

During the design and the production phase, it is often necessary to use dimensional verification tools. Inspection systems should not only  be precise and accurate but must also be versatile enough to allow quick measurements of parts or supplies in different stages of the process and with as much information as possible.

In recent decades, the inspection processes have used dimensional coordinate measuring machines (CMM), with a high accuracy in  the measurements. However, this technology has some drawbacks: it is necessary to  make useful tools to position the piece and the subject on the measuring table. It also requires physical contact with the workpiece which is not possible for soft materials or deformable parts (unless a special tool is manufactured to hold them). The measurement process is slow and it can't be used for extensive areas which means that it will generate a lot of information of the piece, particularly in areas with free surfaces. They are not portable and they require specially conditioned installations for their use.
